Well I tried to upload some pictures to this site, but they are too big.
I have an external server that I can use to change the pics to code and add them that way. Ill attempt it after I write this tho....
My trip to Wanee in the '68 VW Bug was not uneventful, but it was still a blast.
I went down I-26s thru Asheville NC and then in Spartanburg SC I got on I-85w.
After about a hundred miles, I went south on 129 which is a secondary road that goes thru several towns
and eventually turns into a two lane road. It reminded me of my travels as a young man when most
of the Interstate system wasn't finished yet. I took this all the way to Macon Georgia
and then the car started to have fuel problems. Since it was hot in this area of Georgia, I assumed I
was getting Vapor lock. This is when the fuel in the line gets so hot that it restricts the fuel flow to the fuel pump.
Being as the car was acting up, and I couldn't find the motel I was looking for, I took the exit for I-75s and just kept on going.
I was disapointed because I wasn't going to get to see The Big House, the H&H, or RoseHill Cemetary.
After about 20 miles headed south towards Wanee, I got a glimps of a motel, restaurants,
Wally World, and an IHop but I had just passed the exit ramp!! So I took the next exit and then the car died. I was stuck for about two hours
and could not fix the problem I was having with the fuel line.
So I called a tow truck and had him drop me off at the exit (that I missed previously) and got a room at the Motel6 in Perry Ga.
The next morning, I walked over to have breakfast and on the way back I took a look at my VW and noticed that I was getting fuel!! WooHoo! So I grabbed my bags and started the car and drove it all the way to Wanee Fest post haste!!
When I got to Wanee, the car started acting up again. So for the next two days I worried myself sick about if I was even going to be able to drive the car another 200
miles south to Tampa Florida to be able to see my new Grandson..or even if it would make it back to Tn.
Well, here is where the good karma and the guardian angel stuff comes in.
While I was sitting at my campsite, I got a text message from my brother in N.C.
He said that I need to look at Facebook, and that a friend of mine that I haven't seen in forty years just posted some important stuff hat I need to see.
When I logged on to FB my good friend told me that he has been a VW mechanic for over 27 years,
He already ordered me a new fuel pump,
and get this, He was only 12 miles away!!!
He lives just 10 minutes south of Wanee!! Wow!!! What are the odds of THAT happening!
After Wanee was over, I set my GPS to my friend Randy's house. We put the car in a garage with a bunch of old muscle cars and he
let me use his nice air conditioned truck to be able to go and see my new Grandson for a couple of day's.
When I got back to his house, he already had my car up on a lift and we determined that my fuel problem was caused by an old rusty 47 year old gas tank.
We cleaned it up as best we could and made some minor adjustments and the car made it home without incident the next day. I immediatly ordered a
new gas tank when I got home and it is in the car as I write this. Hopefully I'm good for another 47 years.
I truly believe that someone watches over us.
